January’s Challenge:

DRINK WATER THE MOST

We all know that water is the best. Some of you may have made a Resolution to drink more water this year, give up sodas, or give up other sugary beverages.

Instead of going “cold turkey” on January 1st, why not take the month of January to gradually ease yourself into this new habit?

I personally HATE water. Well, how can you really hate water? It has no taste. But, that is just it. It has not satisfied the part of me that was looking for more than just a thirst quencher. I was most likely going long hours without eating the right foods, ignoring my body’s cues to eat or drink, and staying a bit dehydrated.

I was also drinking a 6-pack or more of Diet Dr. Pepper a day! I had my body so confused. I was trying to fuel myself on a calorie-free caffeinated beverage! Needless to say, I was drained by 3 pm every day.

Why? I had little protein, I was dehydrated, and my blood sugar and metabolism were going into a nose-dive from my dietary habits.

How did water change that?

I challenged myself last year to start drinking a bottle of water between every Diet Dr. Pepper I allowed myself. I would not drink another soda (or other beverage) until I drank one bottle of water.

What happened?

Eventually, I preferred water. Yes, I never thought I would see the day, but, water is my go to now.

As a result, I do not get headaches from dehydration. My gastrointestinal (GI) tract functions more efficiently (no more constipation), and I am not getting sluggish every day around 3 pm.

I am no longer ignoring my body.

Often, when we think we are hungry, we are actually thirsty. A bottle or glass of water will reset our bodies’ fluid balance and manage hunger triggers throughout the day.

Drinking more water leads to eating less junk!

The Challenge:

This month, make a pledge to drink a bottle of water:

  • each morning
  • at lunch
  • before dinner
  • before bedtime

In 30 days, reevaluate your water consumption and your attitude toward it. I bet you will be surprised!
